After a long time, I finally have the opportunity to post on this blog. Mainly due to work and academic reasons, I've been unable to publish anything. However, as the saying goes, "Every cloud has a silver lining," and thanks to an injury and medical leave, I've been able to dedicate some time to this.
A Smart Building, or "Intelligent Building," is a building that provides a productive and efficient environment by optimizing its infrastructure, services, and management, as well as the interrelation between them. A Smart Building can be defined by the following: Software that controls the building's automation functions; and electronic hardware and devices used.
The literal translation is Building Automation Systems. Traditionally, these were separate systems from voice and data communications in a building, although nowadays, it's possible to integrate them. They can include: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC); Energy Management Systems (EMS); Lighting Control; Window and Blind Control; and Digital Signaling.
