During the second week of May, I had the opportunity to attend the BICSI Andean Congress 2012, which is the seventh edition of this type of event held in the Andean region. This time it was held in the city of Bogotá, Colombia.
The presentations covered various aspects of information transport systems, and there was much discussion about Data Centers and the solutions that exist in the market today. In particular, the presentations that caught my attention the most regarding Data Centers and standards were those of Jonathan Jew from TIA-USA, who spoke about "What is being developed in standards for Data Centers today," and Dana Smith's presentation from Uptime on "Tier: its myths and the certification levels for Data Centers.".
In terms of design, I particularly felt that the event was enriched by the interventions of Nilson Parra from TE on “Design Criteria for conduits and spaces in works for structured cabling infrastructure”, and the conference by Victor Bañuelos from CPI on “Maximum efficiency for high-density applications with passive thermal management”.
Overall, I think the event was a success thanks to BICSI's efforts to promote the use of industry standards in our countries through events like this. The participation of major structured cabling manufacturers was also noteworthy; I was surprised not to see Panduit, either at the conferences or the trade show. Leviton, TE Connectivity, Siemon, Commscope, and other cable tray, cabinet, and rack manufacturers were present at the trade show, along with Fluke equipment manufacturers, and Jim Davis, who made a prominent appearance.
Those interested in accessing some of the presentations from the event can do so on the website, where they have been published: http://www.bicsiandino.org/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=139

Engineer, I think it's excellent that you share your knowledge through this medium. Regarding fiber optics, could you explain how it works as a sensor, for example, as a temperature sensor?.
