A few days ago I came across a very interesting article about the structured cabling market in Latin America, published by Prensario TI magazine. I think the information is very interesting because it highlights the trend of growing investments in technology in this region of the continent, and also specifically what the sales levels are for structured cabling distributors in our countries, and particularly in Peru.
I'm sharing some of the analysis charts. First, the evolution of structured cabling in Latin America from 2008 to 2012.
A brief analysis reveals the impact of the 2008 crisis, which caused a contraction from US$379 million to US$315 million in 2009. Despite this, after this drop, sustained growth was observed, reaching US$413 million in 2011 and a projection of US$487 million for 2012.
As expected, investment in technology projects is not the same in all countries. However, as countries achieve higher levels of development and quality of life, investments in these sectors definitely increase. The following table, which compares investment in structured cabling across Latin American countries, demonstrates this.
The chart shows, in most cases, an increase in sales for structured cabling distributors when comparing 2010 and 2011. In the case of Peru, the increase ranges from US$16 million to US$18 million. This is still far behind countries with greater economic development, such as Brazil, which grew from US$138 million to US$164 million, or Mexico, which went from US$83 million to US$96 million.
The levels of investment in structured cabling in Peru are driven by the construction boom of recent years, particularly in public works (public buildings, hospitals, etc.), which have increasingly included structured cabling in their implementation specifications. The same trend is occurring in the private sector, with greater domestic and foreign investment.
I personally believe that having a greater number of professionals trained in information transport systems who are involved in new construction projects also contributes to this, because current legislation requires that competent professionals be in charge of the specialty.
This year, 2012, is promising, as the experts say; it is a year where emphasis will be placed on topics such as MPO Modular Fiber cabling, Intelligent structured cabling at the Data Center level, and management solutions such as DCIM.
